ABSNC Revises Standard 6 – “Eligibility Criteria for Test Candidates”
In response to stakeholder input, the ABSNC Board of Directors recently approved changes to Standard 6 - “Eligibility Criteria for Test Candidates”. The revisions to the Standard address eligibility requirements for international candidates. The standard provides a minimum standard by which international certification exam applicants will be expected to meet eligibility requirements; i.e. active licensure in the country of practice. Individual organizations may determine a more rigorous standard for determining eligibility.
In addition to eligibility requirements revisions, the rationale section of the standard has been updated regarding legacy-granting of a credential. Details of the changes to the rationale and eligibility requirements for RNs, advanced nursing, APRNs and non-RN nursing team members can be reviewed here. The revised standard effective date is September 2, 2025.
ABSNC thanks organizations with accredited programs for their feedback in revising Standard 6.
