ABSNC Accreditation

The Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification (ABSNC), was established in 1991 as the ABNS Accreditation Council. Since 2009, the ABSNC has been a separate and autonomous accreditation board. It serves as the only accrediting body specifically dedicated to evaluating nursing certification programs. Through a peer-review mechanism, nursing certification organizations obtain accreditation by demonstrating compliance with the most rigorous industry standards.

The ABSNC continues to promote its vision to be universally recognized as the pre-eminent accrediting organization for all specialty nursing and nursing associated credentialing programs. Accreditation is available for both ABNS member and non-member organizations.

Beginning January 1, 2024, ANCC Magnet status be limited to only to board certifications that are accredited. Accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification (ABSNC) is one of two recognized credentialing bodies necessary to achieve Magnet status.

Organizations interested in verifying individual certification credentials should contact the appropriate certification board that awarded the certification. The ABSNC does not certify practitioners. It accredits certification boards that demonstrate adherence to ABSNC's rigorous standards. A listing of the programs that are accredited by ABSNC can be found at: https://absnc.org/certification/accredited-programs. The listings may help identify the program for which you are seeking credential verification.
